Are the panels included in the purchase?
Ask the seller and your conveyancer who owns the equipment and whether a roof lease or other third-party arrangement exists. Do not infer ownership from the fact that panels are attached to the house. Your legal adviser should review the relevant documents before exchange.
Which installation records should you request?
Gather the original equipment specification, installation date, commissioning information and warranty terms. Ask for recent generation records so a suitable installer can investigate any performance concerns. An app screenshot alone does not establish the condition of the system.
- Panel, inverter and battery models
- Electrical and installation certificates
- Equipment and workmanship warranties
- Service, repair and fault records
- Monitoring account transfer instructions
What happens to export payments?
Ask which payments the seller receives and which supplier administers them. The supplier should explain the transfer process and any evidence needed. Existing Feed-in Tariff arrangements need particular care; do not assume a new export application automatically preserves the old terms.
Should the roof and equipment be inspected?
Discuss the system with your surveyor and ask whether a specialist inspection is appropriate. Roof condition, mounting, cable routes and equipment age may affect future costs. Request clarification before accepting a claim about remaining lifespan or annual savings.
What if you want to add a battery?
Wait until the equipment and ownership position are clear. Give an installer the current inverter specification and export arrangement, then ask how a retrofit affects compatibility and warranties. Compare its expected benefit using your own electricity routine after the move.
How can we help with a new installation?
If the property has no panels, start with a fresh roof and demand assessment. Grays Solar can connect an enquiry with a partner installer. The age of the house or the presence of solar on neighbouring properties is not proof that a specific system is suitable.
