Solar grants in Thurrock: where to check eligibility

Thurrock Council’s Warm Homes: Local Grant page lists solar PV among the measures that may be available. Battery storage is listed when it complements solar PV. This is an assessed home energy-efficiency scheme, not an automatic entitlement to free panels for every household.

The council lists household income, benefits or area-based criteria alongside property conditions such as an EPC in bands D to G and private ownership or private renting. Read the current scheme requirements with the delivery team rather than deciding eligibility from a postcode or one figure alone.

Before accepting a quotation or paying a deposit, ask the scheme provider how approval and installer selection work. Do not assume that an independently arranged installation will be reimbursed. Keep the written decision and the agreed scope of funded work.

No. VAT relief affects the tax charged on qualifying installation work. It does not pay the equipment cost for you. HMRC’s current temporary zero-rate period for qualifying residential solar and battery installations ends on 31 March 2027. Have your installer confirm the treatment of your proposed work.

The Smart Export Guarantee concerns payment for eligible electricity exported after installation. It is different from an upfront grant. The supplier’s eligibility, metering and tariff terms apply. Include export income in a comparison only with clearly stated assumptions.
